The Yollacalli Youth Museum
- Mission Statement
The Yollocalli Youth Museum, a youth initiative of the Mexican
Fine Arts Center Museum, was established in 1997 as an arts
education and career-training program. Yollocalli provides multi-disciplinary
arts education and opportunities for all youth. All programs
are free. Yollocalli is committed to the production, interpretation
and exhibition of art. Yollocalli provides an open forum for
experimentation, collaboration and dialogue about issues in
the arts and coordinates formal and informal educational programs
including but not limited to: year-round classes (ages 13-21),
exhibitions, visiting artists and artist in residence programs,
time arts events, performances, video screenings and workshops
in a safe, engaging and constructive supervised atmosphere.
Yollocalli is dedicated to projects that (1) support our mission
and public trust responsibilities, (2) are accessible and encourage
participation of the widest possible audiences, (3) respect
pluralistic values, traditions and concerns, and (4) are responsive
to a wide range of diverse interests.
Yollocalli Youth Museum serves youth and communities in important
ways including cultural preservation and rejuvination, job training
and mentoring. Yollocalli's programming complements the Mexican
Fine Arts Center Museum's commitment to public service and community
outreach. Programs are designed to: (1) develop student's appreciation
for and understanding of art, (2) enhance critical thinking
skills through a multi disciplinary approach and (3) help students
make connections with contemporary ideas and cultural histories.
