Introducing Yollocalli Students to the techniques and theories of art further enhances their career training experiences in the art world. Through the creation of various art works students have explored different techniques in painting, drawing, printmaking, web design and many more.

Curatorial Projects
Curatorial projects are a way to introduce Yollocalli students to all types of careers in the arts by presenting different aspects of the curatorial process. In addition to the creation of artwork, students also participate in projects that expose them to the administration and exposition of artwork. Working directly with the Director and Visual Arts Educator of the Yollocalli Youth Museum, the students gain experience in the curatorial responsibilities of a museum. Past Projects have included the installation of three exhibits at the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum. One of which was the first annual Yollocalli Youth Museum exhibit. Yollocalli students will curate their next exhibit, which will be on display at the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum in the summer of 2002.

IBM Computer Lab
In the summer of 2000, the IBM Corporation donated 25 computers to furnish the Yollocalli/Radio Arte computer lab. With these facilities, students are able work with the newest computer programs concerning graphic design, computer animation, and most recently web design. From the exercises and pieces they generate in the various design courses that we offer, students will eventually develop a portfolio that will help them prepare for entry into college courses or jobs in the art field.

Yollocalli / Gallery 37 Downtown Tableware Project
Students have learned how to create functional artwork in the Downtown program. They have learned the art of hand-painted tableware. This project provided apprentice artists with the artistic and vocational skills necessary for developing functional tableware products. They learned and practiced skills and techniques in color, design, painting on ceramic, glazing, chemistry, and finishing.

Product Design
As part of our apprentice artists' expanding role, they will begin designing and developing products for the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum. They will generate the basic ideas, write the proposal, and complete the graphic design for each product which they will see thrugh to its production. The final products will be featured items for sale in the Museum's Gift Shop. Through this process, apprentice artists will develop skills in design, packaging, color theory, and marketing, among others.

Design Projects
Introducing Yollocalli students to the techniques and theories of design further enhances their career training experiences in commercial artwork. Past projects have included the design of the Yollocalli logo, a Latino film festival poster. These projects gave students the opportunity to use their creativity to develop representational commercial images based on a predetermined concept. These design projects expanded students creativity and problem solving skills by challenging them to apply their fine art skills to the development of commercial products. Recent projects include a cover for a MFACM chocolate, a chile-pepper t-shirt.

The Yollocalli Youth Museum logo is a representational imaged designed by the students.
