The
Yollocalli Youth Museum has begun its programming for
children 5 through 12. The programming for children is
being implemented through the development of an Early
Childhood Curriculum. The goal of the Early Childhood
Program is to introduce small children and their parents to
arte while helping them develop and enhance their basic
motor skills. This component of the Yollocalli Youth Museum
will be made available to local childcare agencies so that
their constituents may also participate in our programming.
Intergenerational
In
this course, parent and child had the opportunity to work
with various techniques and mediums to create artwork. Students
also created various sound pieces that will be aired on
a radio station. The participants read and performed stories
from Latin America. They created their own story and transformed
into visual images that are displayed. The participants
created instruments from found objects and composed sound
to accompany their story. Participants performed one story,
recorded it, and will eventually air on a radio station
where it can be shared with everyone. We do all of this
by using different motor-skills that help participants.
Parents also learned about how these activities help their
children learn through the multiple intelligences.
Children's
Class
Children
enrolled in this course learned the basic techniques of
drawing. They began by learning about lines, shapes and
value. Participants then began to experiment with perspective,
still life, and landscape. Participants than created stories
based on their personal lives. By using the techniques and
mediums they have learned, participants illustrated their
stories.
